Along the Dalton Highway north of the arctic circle and about halfway between Fairbanks and the Arctic Ocean you will find Coldfoot Camp. Both a trucker’s retreat and a tourist destination, Coldfoot sits on the southside of the magnificent Brooks range in epic Alaska.
Owned and operated by Northern Air Tour Company (NATC) it attracts people from all over the world year round. Air Arctic is a subsidiary of NATC and provides air transportation to/from Fairbanks in the Piper Navajo Chieftain. Working for NATC was one of the best aviation experiences in my career. The owners started as three friends shuffling people along the haul road in buses. Through their tireless dedication and people-first mentality they have grown the operation into a transportation powerhouse.
If you plan to visit just remember that fall begins at the end of August and lasts two to three weeks before winter arrives and stays until the end of May.
